List of works cited errata

Page history last edited by krtaylor459@gmail.com 4 years, 6 months ago

Key:

  • Module code in parentheses before rule number indicates location of original text to be changed; module code after description of needed change indicates that the change has been made in that module; module code after plus "n/a" means change has been verified as not applicable to that module
  • Because subsequent printings are based on an entirely new text supplied by BSC but Cataloger's Desktop is updated manually, there is occasionally a discrepancy between print and online that is to be noted and CD to be given the correction
  • Additions to text are shown underlined; deletions are shown struck through
  • Codes:
    • {B, B1}, B2, B3, B4 = Books, first through fourth printings; "not done" indicates that the intended change was inadvertently not made
    • C = Cartographic
    • G = Graphics
    • M = Music
    • MSS = Manuscripts
    • S = Serials
    • CD = Cataloger's Desktop

Why does the citation for LCGFT not use the online version? Library of Congress. Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials. http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms.html

I'd be fine with that. I don't think LCGFT was on the id.loc.gov site back in 2011 when LCGFT initially got added to this list. I don't think we'd want to put a period between "Library of Congress" and "Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials" though -it looks like the full title is: "Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials". Shall we make it a simple online resource citation then (no italics), like this?:

Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials. http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms.html

Don't know how that period got in there. I would say your citation above is correct.

DCRM(MSS) doesn't cite LCGFT but your citation looks correct to me.

Okay, I'll add it as an official change. Thanks!

What about the MARC21 citation? Should we change it to an online resource citation? The old URL redirects to a new URL (and CDS is no longer selling this as a print resource. Should it be:
MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data. Library of Congress Network Development and MARC Standards Office. http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/

Good idea. Your citation looks good to me.

Thanks, will add it as an official change. I think the title still needs to be italicized though. It is only databases that don't get italicized (e.g. AAT, LCGFT, RBMS Controlled Vocabularies). The MARC21 documentation doesn't strike me as a database.

It looks in OCLC like FRBR has author main entry, not title. Should its entry read:

IFLA Study Group on the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records. (ital)Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records: Final Report(/ital). München: K.G. Saur, 1998 (and updates). http://www.ifla.org/publications/functional-requirements-for-bibliographic-records

We aren't supposed to follow AACR2 or RDA rules for main entry in this list. It isn't really documented anywhere but when we were writing DCRM(B), we ended up deciding not to use corporate main entry at all because so many questions were being raised as to when it should be corporate vs. title vs. personal name (and if corporate, which corporate body would be most appropriate). So, I think we should just leave the FRBR citation as is.

Thanks! We've made sure DCRM(MSS) entries follow the rest of the modules.
